On the hike, ASM Dave V. gives us a bit of advice on taking some time to "smell the roses" while on this neat trail.

Everyone listened intently to ASM Dave V.

Marshes and swamps surrounded our trail.

Once we made it to camp after 3.5 miles, we needed to locate a water source.  Tim K. volunteered to wade into the water in order to help us collect the water prior to purification.

Brian S. assisting Tim K.

Hey Tim, this is not the time to be taking a bath!

It was easier to purify the (brown) pond water once we had it on shore, so here are Brian S. and Tim K. collecting the pre-purified water into plastic containers.  It took a lot of hands to get through this 3 hour process to purify about 10 gallons of water.

Purifying water is not that exciting, but everyone lent a hand.

Timmy C. was one of our best water purifiers!

During the water purification process, some Scouts tried maneuvering across a log...most made it across unscathed...but all had a great time...especially Hector R. who was kind of working in the swimming merit badge!

Two eager Scouts!

Yes, water purification is a team effort!

Hi Zach...what is that pink stuff on your t-shirt??  It wouldn't be some of the drink mix from lunch, would it?

Chris V. and Sam C. work on the last water collection effort.

Several interesting critters were spotted...including this crazy grasshopper or is it a long spider...not sure!

On Sunday at 6 am, the rain started...and continued all the way out of camp.  Everyone was soaked.  Here is a group shot at the end.

The wet group from another angle.

Perhaps one of the more memorable aspects of this weekend (besides the monsoon like conditions), were Dr. John's hiking boots.  They finally decided (after 12+ years) to blow out, on the wet, soggy hike out of camp.  Dr. John's fun was not limited to one shoe.  Both fell apart within one hour of each other.  We managed to keep them sort of intact with duct tape while on the trail.

Below, the Scouts (esp. Sam C.) enjoy Dr. John's unique fashion statement including the special trail shoes.

What a weekend!
